Tlatelolco

Tlatelolco located in Mexico was the scene of a very disturbing event which took place on October 02, 1968. Only 10 days before the Summer 1968 Olympics. Students gathered in a peaceful protest where they where shot to death. The amount of deaths is said to be around 300+.

I am in the process of finding out more about this massacre. I just received one of many books about the subject, La noche de Tlatelolco published in 1971. Obviously it is written in Spanish. The title translates to The night of Tlatelolco. Also rumors about a movie due out this year staring Ryan Phillipe have got me so very excited! Hope it does justice to this tragic event.

Check out this vid/song by Banda Bostik of course about Tlatelolco.

Lyrics

matar.

Masacre fué lo que pasó en
Tlatelolco hombres y mujeres el gobierno mato,
mató ilusiones y esperanzas del hombre en
vano fué y su ideal se perdió.

Eran letrados y pedían justicia todos
peleaban por un ideal pero el
gobierno siempre ha
sido injusto por protestar los mandó a
asesinar.

I will attempt to translate.

English:
Its been a while that story happened but
the people can not forget in Tlatelolco
the blood ran of students who knew the
truth. This injustice shook the country but
no one could avoid it the armed forces
the goverment sent with orders to shoot to kill.

They were students and they asked for justice
they all fought for an ideal but the goverment has
always been injust and for protesting it sent for
them to be killed

Three red lights cross the sky but they
have death behind with white gloves they covered
their hands to disguise themselves and begin to kill.

Massacre was what happend in Tlatelolco men and women
the goverment killed it killed illusions and hope of man and
the ideal lost.

They were students and they asked for justice
they all fought for an ideal but the goverment has
always been injust and for protesting it sent for
them to be killed
